So for those of you that have been following my blog, you’ll know that one of my 30 before 30 is to watch more Anime!

I’ve always had some interest in Anime, and growing up I can remember watching series such as Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon with my brothers.

It’s not something that I really kept up with…until I was introduced to a series (Attack on Titan – it’s AMAZING) a couple of years ago and it’s fair to say that since then my interest was peaked.

For those who aren’t in the know – Anime is a style of animated series from Japan. There is a huge range of sub-genres that I’m not really familiar with and mostly they are based on Manga books. For those that may thing because it’s animated it’s a kid thing – some can be but there are many out there that are quite adult in the theme so be warned not all are family viewing! My Anime buffs will soon correct me if anything in that brief description is wrong – but that gives you a sense of what it is if you haven’t come across it before.

You can watch it subbed or dubbed (I go for subbed) and it basically means do you want subtitles or not. Despite what the “purists” say – either is absolutely fine and depends solely on how you prefer to watch it. The episodes aren’t normally longer than 20-30 mins too so quite easy to slot in the evening.

So…what did I think of Dr Stone?

This series was recommended to me by a couple of people – and one of the things that appealed to me is that it is only one series with 24 episodes. This isn’t always the case and so if you are going to watch one of the “big anime” series – it is a commitment as it can have up to hundreds of episodes.

I really liked the concept of this – the series is set in the future after all humans have been turned to stone. You follow Senku Ishigami – who is a super science genius who has woken up and he is now trying to navigate this new world (which feels very primitive) and using science to restore civilization.

Don’t worry – I won’t put out any spoilers in case anyone out there fanices watching this.

There are a few twists and turns along the way which is good and the pace stays pretty consistent throughout. It’s pretty lighthearted and has lots of humor throughout. There is a lot of science jargon – but don’t be put off – it’s explained in a fun way and usually with a lot of jokes/idiot guide references so you wont feel lost at all.

I really enjoyed the series as a whole – as it is quite different to any other Anime series I have watched so far. There has been a series 2 confirmed which I am pleased about as they have left it pretty open – so will keep tabs on that.

If you’re new to Anime – I would say that this series is a good one to potentially start with. It’s an easy story to follow, funny and interesting.

I watch my Anime mostly through Crunchyroll which has got a huge selection – but you can also find a variety of Anime series on Netflix too. So maybe give it a try? It’s not for everyone – but it might surprise you!
