So I don’t know about you guys – but the announcement on Monday night hit me hard. I can’t get over just how quickly things are changing at the moment – it’s a really testing time for us all, and we are all having to be super adaptable in our day to day activities and interactions.

I’m very fortunate to have a big garden and enough space to workout in without having to leave the house…and the internet is an amazing resource to find routines (more on that later).

I know that my biggest problem will be maintaining motivation throughout this lockdown period.

For those who follow my blog will have read my previous post Why am I doing this. A big part of my motivation for exercise is linked to social interaction – which of course isn’t really an option at the moment. I’m trying not to get too stuck in the negativity of this – this situation is temporary and I’ll make sure that I am keeping up with my nearest and dearest in other ways.

The primary reason I started my fitness journey is to take better care of my body, my mind and to develop a healthier lifestyle. I know that the next few days, weeks, months are going to be challenging mentally – so keeping healthy and active is a sure-fire way to keep me sane (ish).

So I gotta find something fun and set myself a routine that I’m able to stick to.

Modifying my routine

So to help me keep focused I’m going to make sure I allocate time every day for some kind of exercise. I’m also going to try and keep to my original routine where possible and replace it with like for like workouts.

Monday

  • Morning Yoga. This is easy as I was already doing this at home – and such a good way to start the day.
  • Dog walk. I’m so pleased that I can still go for a walk, it’s good to get out of the house for a lil bit. Now that we are limited to one a day I will be using my walk to share dog-walking duties with the parents.
  • Evening – Zumba – replace with Cardio workout.

Tuesday

  • Morning Yoga
  • Dog walk
  • Evening – Polefit – replace with a Stretch or Strength workout.

Wednesday

  • Morning Yoga
  • Dog walk
  • Evening – Swim – So I haven’t been able to start my March goal of weekly swimming 🙁 so instead I am going to pop in another Cardio workout.

Thursday

  • Morning Yoga
  • Dog walk

Friday

  • Morning Yoga
  • Dog walk

Saturday

  • Morning –Strength Training. I can continue with this with some adaptions at home.

Sunday

  • Morning – Yoga – Going to try and put in a longer session at the weekend.
  • Weekly Nature Walk – This one might be a bit tricky given social distancing restrictions – but going to try and get out into nature as much as I can.

What do I do?

This is one of those times where the internet and social media is AMAZING! There is soo much out there, but I now have the wonderful problem of having too many workouts to choose from.

I’m probably going to mix it up between Youtube, Pinterest, Instagram for most of my workout ideas. Trying to get as much variety as possible and try some new things.

Cardio

  • Get my sweat on – A youtube playlist I created of HIIT workouts to get my heart rate up and blood pumping! Love him or hate him – no one does a HIIT workout like Joe Wicks
  • Just keep spinning – A youtube playlist I created for me to use with my spin bike – they look really hard! 😬
  • Shake that booty! – Another youtube playlist I created of dance workouts. Because sometimes you just gotta shake off the stress and get your sass on! 💃

Yoga 🧘

I’m a huge fan of SarahBethYoga! She has such a huge range of videos on her youtube channel and it doesn’t matter what level you start at – there is something for you. Here is my 10-minute Morning Yoga playlist that I use for my morning sessions.

Strength Training and other stuff 🏋️‍♀️

So my lil bro (hi Dave) puts together my strength training routines so where I can I will try and share some of those. Here are some other good places to find workouts and accounts to follow on Instagram too.

  • Pinterest – I have a Fitness Stuff board that I use when I see stuff I like or want to try. You can literally find a workout for anything on there.
  • Neptune Girls@neptunegirls.co.uk is an account I have recently followed and their dance routines look like so much fun. They are hosting an online membership at the moment for £25 p/m which I’m seriously thinking about atm.
  • Psycle@psyclelondon is a new insta account I am following who are sharing workouts live throughout the day.
  • PureGym@puregymofficial having joined their gym recently – I was a bit gutted that I had to stop – but the PT’s there are doing video sessions on their insta account which is really good.
  • TigerTone@tigertonestudio I can’t go and do pole sessions atm – but the lovely Nat has started some online content…so happy about this!

So here are just a few – but seriously there are LOADS of resources out there, you just gotta go take a look. I looked at a few websites including Womens Health that have loads of articles to get you started.

I’m gonna try and share a few workout things over the coming weeks – and I’d love to hear from you guys as to how you’re managing to keep active in these crazy times.
