So I’ve finally finished reading The Host by Stephanie Myer, it took me far longer than I thought it would.

I’m going to put my hands up and say I’m not the fastest reader in the world, but when I get drawn into a good story it doesn’t normally take long. One of my favourite things is when you have a book that you simply can’t put down…and you end up staying up to the small hours reading “just to the next chapter”.

I had high hopes about this book – I was HUGE fan of the Twilight series (books – films not so much) when they came out and so I fully expected to be gripped with this book.

Sadly…I wasn’t! There is nothing wrong with the book as such, the story is good (I haven’t come across one like it) and I liked the characters and the dynamics between them. It had the typical love triangle with a twist which I enjoyed so much with the Twilight series and I really enjoyed the dynamic between the soul “Wanda” and the human “Melanie” – looking at that internal conversation in a different way.

I think the main problem I had was the pace – there were one or two moments which picked up a bit – but then it just seemed to plod along again.

I was about 18/19yrs old when I read the Twilight series – so maybe if I had read this back then I would have a very different view.

So my personal review is that this book is ok – but not one I would rush to read again/

What’s next?

So for those of you who have read my May blog post will know that I’m reading the Body Positive Power book by Megan Jayne Crabbe. So far I’m really enjoying it and just goes to show that I’m definitely in a better head space to be reading it this time around.

The only problem I have is that it gets me thinking too much…which is good…but not when you are trying to go to sleep.

I like to read as part of my evening routine, so I want to start something a little different in pace so that it helps me to unwind. With this in mind, I’ve decided to add another book to my reading list for this month –

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.

This book was given to me by a good friend when I left a previous job and I’ve been told by many people since just how amazing it is, so let’s give it a go!

I’m always looking for recommendations for new things to read – I’m particularly keen to try genres and styles I maybe haven’t tried before.

So if you guys have any must-read books for me to add to the collection, let me know.
