So as promised – here is a little review about my January read – Goldenhand.

This book is part of the Old Kingdom series which features the following

  • Sabriel
  • Lirael
  • Abhorsen
  • Clariel
  • Goldenhand

The first three books I read back when I was in secondary school – and instantly fell in love with them. I started to re-read them last year when I got the latest book and I can honestly say that I enjoyed reading them as much now as I did over 10 years ago.

The genre is kind of young adult/fantasy. So if you like fantasy books then this would definitely be up your street. In a nutshell, it is set in the Old Kingdom where everyone has Charter Magic – and there is this role called the Abhorsen – and they banish/defeat the dead and free magic creatures.

I won’t give too much about this particular story away – as you need to have read the other books – but it is a good finale for the series.

The only thing I found a bit difficult to start with is the fact you follow two characters – and in the beginning, you swap between them in each character. It can get a little confusing, especially if you haven’t read it for a couple of days.

The end really picks up though and gets pretty exciting. As I said – a good finale to the series and one that I would recommend if you like fantasy books.
